Amma's Angel-Week 4

Namah Shivaya brothers and sisters!

Today was the fourth week of Amma's Angel. There were fifty kids today. It is amazing the way they come every week on one holiday they get. They were ever eager to learn more. The class commenced with the ligthing of lamp and dhyana shloka. We also had the recitation of national anthem and the pledge.
Immediately thereafter, the kids were split up according to their grades and lessons were begun. All the kids love to write and learn! Given their enthusiasm and interest, had they been exposed to the resources available to us, they would do wonders. The lessons session was exhaustive and went on for an hour and a half.

Following the lessons, it was games time! The usual routine of ring-a-ring-a-roses was followed by two new games. The first one was 'Boogie-Woogie' in which the we all danced to the popular song "Put your right had in...put your right hand out...". The kids enjoyed it a lot and some were dancing to it even after it was over! We also played musical chairs singing 'Om Namah Shivaya' as the song.

Following the games, the kids were given biscuits. A story of the golden goose was narrated. An important quality of not being greedy was taught to the kids. They were then asked to recollect the teachings of previous classes like not using foul language, not wasting water etc. The children were also asked to cut their nails regularly and were advised against chewing their nails. They were also taught to use the words 'sorry' and 'thank you'.

In the end the kids were taught the song, "God's Love is so wonderful". All of them sang in accord and enjoyed it a lot. The class ended after changting of 'Om' thrice and offering namaskaram to Amma. Due to Amma's everflowing grace, all of us are realy enjoying this a lot. The kids are also responding very well. Please feel free to come and join us in this seva!

Amma's Angel-Week 3

Hello everyone!
Today was the third week of our latest project, Amma's Angel. We had an unexpected turnout today. There were around sixty-four children! Almost three times of what we had last week.
The kids were, as always, very enthusiastic. We had to be on our toes all the time to keep up with them!

The class started by lighting the lamp and chanting of "Om Amriteshwaryai Namah" followed by dhyana shloka.
The previous week's lessons were revised and the children were taught basic counting today. After this, there was a small educational game wherein the kids were given instructions like "Stand up! Sit down! Turn to your right! " etc. This was mainly to get them accustomed to basic sentences in English. Many of the kids were very well versed with these sentences! The games session followed this. The kids love ring-a-ring-a-roses, so we play that every week. In addition, we had another popular game 'Oranges and Lemons'. They loved this too.

A snack break of biscuits was given to them. After the break it was lessons time. The children were divided into groups based upon their level of education. Each group had a volunteer to teach them. The younger ones were taught 'ABCD..', the elder ones were assisted wherever they had difficulties and so on.
Soon it was time for lunch. We sang "Om Namah Shivaya" in the end again accompanied by the kids' claps.

Due to Amma's ever flowing grace, each week is proving to be better than the previous one! We too learn so many subtle lessons of innocence, humility and many more while teaching the kids.
Their eagerness to study and learn is immense. We ought to learn so many things from them.

Please feel free to join us and express any ideas to improvise this project.

Always in Amma's love,
AYUDH Mumbai.

Amma's Angel- week 2

Hello Everyone!
The second week of Amma's Angel went off very well. We had around twenty five children. Many of the children from last week were present and there were some new children too. The class was commenced by lighting of the lamp during which everyone chanted "Om Amriteshwaryai Namah". This was followed by chanting "Om" thrice and a saraswati mantra.

The children were then taught ABCD.. in a sing song manner. They responded very well. We, the volunteers and the children then played ringa- ringa- roses followed by 'united chain' (chor sakhli) where a single person starts off by running and catching someone and then those two form a chain and catch another person and so on. Gradually the chain gets longer and it becomes easier to catch the remaining persons. It teaches us a simple yet profound lesson of the effectiveness of doing things together in a team.
The kids really enjoyed it and wanted to play more. Some of them even requested if they could play cricket sometime!

This was followed by Swamiji's story. He explained the importance of doing good actions and the consequences of wrong ones. After Swamiji's story, the children were enlightened about Amma's younger days when she used to get up early in the morning, work, go to school, come back and again work, all while repeatedly chanting god's name.
This was followed by a snack break when the kids were given sandwiches.

During the post-break session, the children were taught Gandhiji's message of not speaking bad, hearing bad and seeing bad. They were also taught not to waste water. They were advised not to use foul language and if they encountered someone doing so, they have to tell them not to do so.
Following this, the children responded very enthusiastically and eagerly when they were asked if they wanted to write. The children were taught to write alphabets both in capital and cursive handwriting.

In the end, everyone sang 'Om namah shivaya' accompanied by loud and energetic clappings of the children.

Thus, thanks to Amma's grace, another session of this project went off very well. Please feel free to express any ideas you might be having in order to make this endeavour a success!
Namah Shivaya!
